Every June and July, the library hosts a Summer Reading program. All ages can participate, from babies to teens to grandparents. It’s easy to join, and readers can earn fun surprises, restaurant certificates, and free books as a reward for reading during the summer months.
Children (birth through 6th grade) who participate in the “Dig Into Reading” summer reading program simply fill out reading logs and turn them in at the library to receive a surprise. Reading logs will be available to pick up at the library starting May 20th. In addition, kids and families can attend fun events, movies, storytimes, educational programs and more at the library all summer long.

KICKOFF: The summer will kick off in a BIG WAY with ventriloquist, illusionist & comedian, Kevin Horner at St. Bernard’s Parish Hall on Monday, June 3rd at 10:30 am. Join us for Kevin’s fun and engaging show: “Can You Dig It? I Can Dig it.”
PRIZES: For each Reading Log completed, kids receive a surprise and a new Log to work on. Children who complete 5 Logs by July 19th at 1:00 pm will receive a free book at the end of the summer and an opportunity to win our Grand Prize – a Nook eReader. Books prizes will be available to pick-up between July 22 and Aug 3.
UNDERGROUND SCAVENGER HUNT: The traditional Scavenger Hunt will take place again this year as you search local businesses for underground related items. Visit local businesses starting, Monday, June 3rd to find the poster, and fill in your scavenger hunt sheet. Drop off your completed scavenger hunt any time at the Wamego Public Library to receive your prize! All scavenger hunts must be completed by Friday, July 19th at 1:00 pm.
FINALE: To celebrate an awesome summer of reading, the library would like to invite you to Wamego’s first Worm Race! Come race your worm and enjoy Call Hall dirt & worms ice cream sundaes. All summer reading participants and their families are invited to attend.

Children are encouraged to attend classes independently. Parents or caregivers are asked to stay in the library during classes in case your child needs you.
Plan for your child to attend a class session for his/her age. Please arrive a few minutes early. Out of courtesy for others, if your child becomes restless, please step outside the room. Thank you.
